Thematic section for 2nd issue of 2025
POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY OF THE SLAVOPHILES
Slavophilism and its inherent system of political and historical ideas have been the subject of almost continuous study since the 1870s when A.N. Pypin's "Characteristics of Literary Opinions " appeared.
However, over the past quarter century, many new studies have appeared, and numerous sources that were previously inaccessible or difficult to access for researchers have been introduced into circulation. The theoretical framework and research prospects have also changed.
The purpose of the planned thematic block of the journal is to discuss the current state and prospects for studying the political philosophy of the Slavophiles. At the same time, the editors strive to focus on the historical analysis of key concepts - "people", "conciliarity", "power", etc., paying special attention to the relationship and interaction of the Slavophile circle of ideas with the synchronous ideas of other ideological trends. In the 2nd issue for 2025, we plan to address the following topics primarily:
- the concept of "people" among the Slavophiles in synchronicity and historical dynamics;
- the concept of "political" in Slavophilism, its boundaries and pragmatics;
- the concepts of "power" and "authority" in Slavophilism and related ideological currents;
- the political philosophy of the Slavophiles in the context of their philosophy of history and historical imagination;
- borrowing and rethinking of key Slavophile ideas and concepts by other ideological movements, both chronologically simultaneous or close, and distant in time;
- Slavophilism, conservatism and Russian populism - primarily regarding the influence of Slavophile ideas and images on Russian populism. We are not going to limit ourselves to the mentioned topics and be happy to consider any other historical and philosophical research and works on intellectual history related to Slavophilism, Slavophiles and their intellectual environment, interlocutors and opponents – but we give primary attention to the topics previously cited.
