Peer Review

All submissions to the “Philosophy. Journal of the Higher School of Economics” are reviewed. The Editorial board makes a decision whether the material will be published (with or without revisions) or it will not be accepted for publication. The decision is based on reviews.

There are two stages of review process:

  1. The material is judged for thematic fit with the journal’s purview and its compliance with formal requirements. In case there are any incompliances, the editorial notifies the author that the material is not accepted for further consideration. In certain cases the editorial may suggest to improve the material significantly and resubmit. Approximately, the editorial considers all submissions in a month. If the material is rejected at this stage, the author will receive notification by the e-mail.
  2. The materials that are accepted for further consideration are sent to two anonymous reviewers. Generally, one of them is a member of editorial board and the other is outside expert in this field. The reviewing process is double blind, which means that neither author(s) nor reviewers know personal details of each other. The review fills special form in which he/she evaluates the article on a number of criteria and specifies his/her remarks to the article. Additionally, the reviewer could give detailed comments to the article that include critical analysis of strengths and weaknesses of the article and recommendations to improve the material in many ways (the structure, style, etc.). All reviews contain recommendation to publish the material (with or without revisions) or to refuse a publication. The reviews are sent to the editorial, which make decision concerning publication. The editorial team gets the reviews and makes a decision in up to six months.

Overall the reviewing process takes up to 6 months. In case additional reviewing is needed, the article is sent to the additional reviewers. The editorial team informs authors about the decision via e-mail. The accepted submissions go to literary editors who provide assistance in proofreading and copy-editing. Both author(s) and editorial team should approve the final version of a paper.

Materials are published as soon as they are prepared on a first-come, first-served basis. The editorial team may determine order of publication in accordance with the themes of coming issues.

All materials (reviews, records of discussion, etc.) could be transferred to publisher, founder or other third parties (including members of The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation) provided that it is requested. The editorial board makes decision concerning transferring on a case-by-case basis. The editorial board keeps reviews for at least five years from the moment they are sent to the Editorial Board.
